About BIG
The Business Innovation Group is a not-for-profit networking organization
formed by business professionals for business professionals.
BIG's founders wanted to form a networking group that would help small business owners and professionals grow their companies. With the new dynamics of the 21st Century and the advances in technology, there were more entrepreneurs than ever before. There are many networking groups in the area but not all provide the motivation and organization to really help a business succeed.
The vision for BIG was to form a group that could help its members expand their companies through networking. Meetings would improve and nourish minds with inspirational speakers, mentorship programs, professional workshops and tradeshows.
Business mentorship is an important part of BIG's strategy. BIG's focused, dynamic organization offers positive referral strategies that help businesses succeed. The founders recognised businesses need to do more than just "meet and greet". Friendship and fellowship are important and at each meeting. We employ innovative techniques to break the ice and introduce newcomers to each other and long-time members.
In November 2002, BIG held its first trade show attended by nearly 100 people. Shortly afterwards the Board of Directors was formed and many of the founding members are still with us.
In January 2003, we had 32 registered members. By May 2003 we had more than 60 members and introduced the Points for Progress referral/volunteer strategy. By July, we had already completed four workshops and close to 30 presentations/meetings. On September 30, 2003, we launched the BIG Ideas Book to 5000 business owners and professionals.
In April 2005, Big expanded to include community Chapters in Thornhill, Scarborough North, Markham, and Richmond Hill. More Chapters are being planned as qualified Chapter Directors join our team.
BIG is a growing success and its members are helping other businesses succeed as well.
